Let's start planning things out, hm?
Where the storyline begins...
I'd suggest we dial things back all the way to where we faced off against Thomas Quint, with the difference that both Meris and Nereus are already well-established in Hope. I'd like to propose that in this new continuity, the war against Hell happened somewhere in 2020, and that most of the events of the earlier iteration would've happened years ago. Most demons went back to Hell, with most urban centres now only having a few thousand demons who would've chosen to stay, on average. Angels are even fewer in number, as existing on Earth is an effective downgrade, for most beings of the Celestial Host. Those who chose to stay are either particularly attached to Humanity thanks to their convictions (e.g. Gabriel) or attached to one particular physical being (e.g. Matriel, in relation to Hanako).
I'd suggest that the confrontation with Hell would've destroyed the Shadowlands and most of Faerie, so most Sidhe tend to now wholly live and hold their offices in the mortal plane. The world's effectively lost the benefit of Faerie Gates. To compensate, the Fae can give an area or a specific room or place a more substantially magical aura, effectively creating a slice of Seelie or Unseelie in the physical plane. Most Fae accomodate themselves with this quite well, but those on the darker ends of the spectrum (anyone affiliated with Mab) tend to openly verbalize that they'd like to take things back to the way they used to be.
All of this implies several profound changes made by the Architect during the war against Hell - and the relatively long-standing Void Weaver refugees are now equally worshipped or demonized, depending on who you ask. Magic is far less stable than it used to be, with the Shadowlands destroyed. While personal use is still quite safe, big infrastructure projects that rely on magic are now heavily frowned upon. Some Squids, Nereus among them, are aware that there's been something of a "universal reboot" and a re-working of the fundamental laws of Creation, but he's concerned with the jolt this could've given to old Hyperborean megaliths that emerged in Antarctica, thanks to the demons' influence.
We open as Hyperborea is now starting to deliver its secrets, and as Hope's Museum of Ancient History is prepping itself for its first big exhibit after the end of the war...
